ContentsExperience
This studio aims to help Minamisanriku recover from the 2011 Great East Japan earthquake by producing goods which make use of locally sourced and sustainably harvested materials. They make furniture and trinkets out of timber from forest thinning in nearby mountains, and handicrafts made from silk cocoons in honor of the area’s history as a center of sericulture. The studio is most famous for its Octopus-kun figurines, which have been popular as good-luck charms for exam takers since even before the earthquake. Tours of the workshop are also available; please feel free to drop in.
