After a period as a shopping district made up of temporary buildings following the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, the Sun Sun Shopping Village reopened as a permanent facility in March 2017. Twenty-eight shops are open for business here, including several restaurants where one can try Minamisanriku’s signature seafood bowl, kirakiradon. Stores here sell fresh fish, processed seafood products, confectionery, souvenirs, daily supplies, and more. There is also a covered communal dining area, so you can buy whatever you like from any of the stores and enjoy it right away. Located on an artificial hill built as a tsunami countermeasure, the view is nice too. On weekends, the Shopping Village is bustling with tourists.
