The school building of Kesennuma Koyo High School was heavily damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred on March 11, 2011. Since then, the school has been relocated and this building preserved and opened to the public as a museum. The tsunami reached the fourth floor of the building. On the third floor, a car that became lodged in the building by the force of the tsunami remains in place. Look back at the scene immediately following the disaster alongside videos and educational exhibits. For groups, a storyteller guide and a disaster prevention seminar are also available (reservations required).
