As the birthplace of sericulture in Sendai Domain, the Iriya area of Minamisanriku flourished through the production of silk. A facility that commemorates that prosperity is Hikoro no Sato, the former residence of the Sudo family, where even the mayor of the former Iriya Village used to work. “Hikoro” means “light.” There is also an on-site teahouse and guesthouse where you can enjoy local cuisine or overnight stays.
