The family altars of homes in Minamisanriku are decorated with kiriko, ornaments cut from pure white paper. They are made with a delicate touch by the chief priest of Kaminoyama Hachimangu Shrine. At this shrine, you can learn about the history of kiriko and try your hand at making one yourself. The activity takes about 90 minutes, and advance reservation is required.
