LocationKesennuma

ContentsDo & See / Experience

Opened in 1997 and located inside Kesennuma Port’s Umi no Ichi complex, this the only shark museum in Japan. Kesennuma Port boasts the top shark catch in Japan and is known worldwide as a production area for shark fin, a vital ingredient in Chinese cuisine. Although the museum was severely damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, it was reopened in 2014 after restoring the surviving materials. In addition to learning about sharks, there are also exhibits about earthquake records and fishing.
