A small shopping street of restaurants, clothing stores, NPOs and more. The district began as an area of temporary shop buildings set up in the wake of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. Sold off by the Rikuzentakata city government in 2018, the shopping street has continued operating as a private enterprise since then. Though it still has the atmosphere of a commercial district in an area undergoing reconstruction, new initiatives such as product development and menu development are also being carried out. We recommend the hotawaka gozen served at Cafe Food Bar Waiwai, a Japanese-style set meal made with a variety of Rikuzentakata ingredients.
