This park was once the site of a castle which belonged to the Wakuya Date clan who ruled the area. The park is now home to a reconstruction of that castle, and is also famous as one of the top cherry-blossom viewing spots in the Tohoku region. The Wakuya Town Historical Museum, located next to Taikodo Hall (the corner tower of the castle), presents the history of the town through materials relating to the Wakuya Date clan. The park also hosts a variety of events, especially during cherry blossom season, such as night cherry blossom viewing and the Tohoku Draft Horse Racing Competition.
